Even though she's a mother now, things between us haven't changed. She didn't suddenly become "too mature" for me. She is so proud of her son Austin, and I'm glad that she loves him so much.
We always joke about when we were kids. She used to bite, scratch, and beat me up. She used to always eat out of the yellow bowl, and never eat the crusts of sandwiches.
She remembers me keeping my mom's pregnancy with Jodi a secret from everyone else.
I remember when she called me up to tell me when she was pregnant. I had already heard through word of mouth, but she was afraid that I wouldn't want to be her friend any more. I tried to stay by her side for the whole thing, and I saw her day after the baby was born in the hospital. She knows that I love her little guy, and totally trusts me with him. That means a lot to me.
Colleen still has this "fight for your right" attitude. Today, when we were picking up our student cars, she pushed someone out of the way who had gone ahead of us in the line. I'm too timid to do that. She has her brown belt in karate, and even though we're the same size, she could snap me like a toothpick. In our pictures, you could swear we were sisters. She is like my sister.
Colleen still doesn't eat the crusts on her sandwiches or pizza. Instead she passes them over to me so they're not wasted. (I love pizza crust.)
